About Karen

My love of Tai Chi and Qigong began in 1996, and I started teaching in 2001.

The majority of my training has been with Karel and Eva Koskuba, and over the years I’ve attended workshops with Grand Master Chen Xiaowang and his son Master Chen Yin-Jun, Kenneth Cohen, Master Lo De Xiu, John Ding, Kinthissa, Mike Sigman, and the late Linda Chase Broda.

I've studied Chen Laojia (Old Style) and Laojia Paochui (Cannon Fist), Xinjia (New Style), Yang (108 Long Form), Push Hands and Yang Two-Person Form (San Shou), and Chen Style Straight Sword, Broad Sword and Spear.

I am registered as a Senior Instructor with the Tai Chi Union of Great Britain, have a City and Guilds 7370 teaching certificate, have completed instructor training in both Tai Chi and Qigong with the Chinese Internal Arts Association, and am a member of the CIAA and the British Council for Chinese Martial Arts.

Having attended mindfulness training (Working in the Present Moment - Integrating Mindfulness Practice with Psychological Therapy, Coaching & Other Relational Work) at the Metanoia Institute, and trained as a Clinical Hypnotherapist with the London College of Clinical Hypnotherapy, and I now combine my knowledge of mindfulness, Tai Chi and Qigong in my teaching.

Who are my students?

My aim is to pass on my knowledge and expertise to as many people as possible; my classes welcome a diverse group of people and I take an inclusive approach.

I really enjoy working with people with on-going health issues, including helping people with Fibromyalgia, Myalgic Encephalopathy (ME), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinsons, Peripheral Neuropathy, Polymyalgia Rheumatica, pain management, phobias, strokes, anxiety, stress and post surgery complications.

I’ve taught various groups and organisations, including the BP Technology Centre, Guernsey Adult Education and Multiple Sclerosis Group, Healthcare Research Worldwide (HRW), Help in Hearing, Oxford Brookes University, Purley Park Trust, Revlon, simplehuman and the Women’s Institute (WI).

Quotes from BP Technology Centre employees after a Tai Chi taster session in September 2015:

"Thanks so much for yesterday’s tai chi session.  I really enjoyed it. I thought Karen was great ... that is the first hour since being back at work after maternity leave that … there was no other space in my mind to worry about work or my son – so I felt worry free for the first time in over a year! I felt so relaxed afterwards – was pretty amazing really!"

"I very much enjoyed the class today and found it both relaxing and re-invigorating. It was delivered in a professional but informal and friendly way that was suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.”
